‘Laura was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. She wowed the selection panel at interview with the quality of her work and at each stage of the design process was professional, ensuring she met the requirements of the brief. She is a confident and clear communicator and delighted local primary school pupils with a weaving workshop. They all wanted her to come back again the following week! The final artwork is high quality and the client was very pleased.’

THE BEANEY, CANTERBURY

‘Laura was a joy to work with on the Museumaker commission for The Beaney in Canterbury. From our first meeting she impressed with her professional approach, innovative ideas, quality of work, and pragmatic flexibility. We felt confident that she would deliver to time and to budget in a project that had many uncertainties and stakeholders. She responded creatively to changing circumstances, and organised successful fabrication and installation. Her windows are a striking, memorable and pivotal feature of The Beaney. I would highly recommend Laura and her beautiful work.’

‘I have attended several workshops run by Laura Thomas and have no hesitation in saying that she is a jewel among tutors. She has the great gift of being able to adapt her teaching so that in a mixed ability class those who have little experience and those who have much more will both gain a tremendous amount. She is well organised and prepared and produces excellent information sheets that cover the course syllabus. Her manner is friendly and relaxed and that transmits itself to the more apprehensive students, giving them confidence and pride in their achievements.

Her reputation precedes her so that when I have told weaving friends and colleagues that we are having Laura for a workshop, the response is first: ‘Are there any spare places?’ and secondly: ‘You lucky thing. I wish I was doing a workshop with Laura.’

I have absolute confidence that any group, guild or individual taking the opportunity to do a course with Laura will have a brilliant time, learn a huge amount about the structure they are studying and expand their weaving knowledge generally.’
